Newton’s law of software engineering

Here is Newton’s contribution to Software Industry:

Law 1. Every Software Engineer continues his state of chatting or forwarding mails unless he is assigned work by external unbalanced manager.

Law 2. The rate of change in the software is directly proportional to the payment received from client and takes place at the quick rate as when deadline force is applied.

Law 3. For every Use Case Manifestation there is an equal but opposite Software Implementation.

Bonus :-) Law 4 . Bugs can neither be created nor be removed from software by a developer. It can only be converted from one form to another. The total number of bugs in the software always remains constant.

~ being a software engineer i agree with all four laws.

Google Transit

Again……. they are not satisfied with Google Maps, Google Local, …. and came up with some thing new Google Transit

One of the best things about working at Google is a policy known as "20 percent time," which you can read about on our jobs page or in this post. Having the freedom to pursue projects during 20 percent of our work week means engineers can pursue a breadth of unique and interesting ideas without having to wait for anyone else.

Souce: Google Blogs

They have experimented on locale travel policies and launched a tool by which commuters can easily access schedule of public tranasport and plan their short trips and save money and time as they provide you cost of driving. Currently they only offer transit planning for the city of Portland.

And ofcourse we indians have to wait for these great services from Google.

Technology Quote

I like this one:

When a new technology gets it’s own symbol on ALL keyboards in the world ever made ( like the @ ) then it’ll be safe to assume it’s big and strong.. Until then, E-mail is still one of the most used ways to communicate…

Google “content grouping”

Hey, I found something new on Google.

When I searched for "news movies" it grouped all results. Try this "resident evils". Can any one suggest what’s this? Has Google engine started working on content grouping technique?

Google Base is now “Live”

Hey Everybody,

The most awaited service from Google is now live, Google base, on 15 Nov. They say :

Got something you want the world to see? Google Base is Google’s database into which you can easily submit all types of content. We’ll host your content and make it searchable online.

Use your GMail account to login. Really Google is being central data-holder for World’s information with GoogleSearch, GoogleMail, GoogleGroups, GoogleTalk (GTalk) and now GoogleBase. I use CCW - "Communication Centre of World" for Google. Let’s see how GBase can be usefull to us. Do u want something, just search on Google base.

Now the situation is the world can’t live without the word ‘Google’.

Just "goog" it……

4 Criminals problem : Logical Solution

Solve following :

4 criminals are caught and are to be punished. The Judge allows them to be freed if they can solve a puzzle. If they do not, they will be hung. They agreed.

4Men-Problem.JPG

The 4 criminals are lined up on some steps (shown in picture). They are all facing in the same direction. A wall seperates the fourth man from the other three.

So to summarise :-
Man 1 can see men 2 and 3.
Man 2 can see man 3.
Man 3 can see none of the others.
Man 4 can see none of the others.

The criminals are wearing hats. They are told that there are two white hats and two black hats. The men initally don’t know what colour hat they are wearing. They are told to shout out the colour of the hat that they are wearing as soon as they know for certain what colour it is.

They are not allowed to turn round or move.
They are not allowed to talk to each other.
They are not allowed to take their hats off.

Who is the first person to shout out and why?

It should not take more than 5 minutes to solve.

Grokker : A new search engine

"Broad exploration, unexpected discovery, deep understanding."

A new way to look at search engine. The thing that makes it different from otther search engines is "content grouping". Just try it. Grokker.com

I searched for Ankit and it grouped results for "Ankit Fadia", "Ankit Jain", Ankit Shah", "Ankit’s Profile", etc; Excelling intelligence. Morever that java applet has great animation work. These guys are doing great job.

Actually there is clustering engine that groups all fetched pages as per their content. Here is the Grokker architechture:

HowGWorks.gif

 [Source: http://www.groxis.com/service/grokker/explore.html ]

The only thing is it’s not so popular as Google or Yahoo are. More tips for Grokker :

  • Use Google. Increase no of results, even for demo, at least 250-300, so that more likely grouping can be done.
  • Crawl the web, and create an “Internet directory”, like DMOZ, and perform automatic grouping.

How Can I Save My All Chatting Conversations in Yahoo Messenger?

Dear all,

Here is a tricky solution:

  1. Enable Archiving from Yahoo Messenger>Messenger Menu>Preferences>Archive>
  2. There is a small tool available "Yahoo messenger archive decoder". Download it.
  3. Copy and save entire directory  C:/PF/Yahoo/Messenger/Archive/
  4. Run the tool and give the saved archive directory as traget.
Regards,
